Accra: The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has publicly disclosed that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz receives a monthly salary of $80,000. This announcement comes in response to widespread reports that had previously claimed Queiroz was earning $100,000 following his appointment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
According to Ghana Web, the revelation by the minister aims to address the calls from sports journalists and concerned citizens who demanded transparency regarding the financial details of the coach's contract. After the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Adams clarified the coach's salary, stating, "Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month and not $100,000 as speculated."
The minister also expressed concerns over the timing of the dismissal of former Black Stars coach Otto Addo, which occurred shortly before the World Cup. Adams indicated that if he had the authority, he would have made the decision to relieve Addo of his duties earlier, allowing Queiroz more time to prepare the team for the tournament. "If the decision were mine alone, I would have sacked Otto Addo much earlier during the qualifiers," he remarked, as reported by TV3.
The Black Stars were eliminated from the World Cup in the Round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 loss to Colombia. Despite the coaching change, the result was disappointing for many Ghanaians. Reports suggest that the GFA is considering extending Carlos Queiroz's contract to lead the team's efforts in the qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
