Accra: The National Blood Service Ghana has honored Twellium Industrial Company Limited for its significant contributions to voluntary blood donation and its support in enhancing healthcare delivery across the nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the accolade was awarded during the World Blood Donor Day 2026 celebration, acknowledging Twellium's dedication to promoting voluntary blood donation and its initiatives to improve blood availability nationwide. Over the years, Twellium has integrated blood donation activities into its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, motivating employees and community members to engage in blood donation events.
The company, in collaboration with Zipline and the National Blood Service, initiated a nationwide blood mobilization campaign in 2025 themed 'To Share Love, Donate Blood.' This year-long campaign aimed to address blood shortages and foster a culture of voluntary and unpaid blood donation throughout the country.
The partnership set a goal to save over 10,000 lives by boosting blood donations and enhancing access to blood products for patients in dire need of medical attention. Blood donation activities under this campaign, held in regions such as the Northern and Ashanti Regions, successfully attracted hundreds of volunteers and encouraged widespread public participation in voluntary blood donation.
Additionally, the partnership took advantage of Zipline's drone delivery network to enhance the distribution of blood and medical supplies to healthcare facilities. In 2025, Zipline conducted over 4,300 blood deliveries, transporting more than 5,000 units of blood to 96 health facilities nationwide. These efforts helped mitigate blood shortages and bolstered emergency response measures for maternal health cases, accident victims, children, and critically ill patients.
The collaboration synergized Twellium's community mobilization efforts, Zipline's logistical capabilities, and the National Blood Service's technical expertise to support the establishment of a sustainable blood supply system rooted in voluntary and unpaid donations. This recognition highlights Twellium's commitment to health-related initiatives aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
