Accra: A video has emerged on social media showing the moment a motorbike rider and his passenger were swept away by fast-moving floodwaters at an undisclosed location in Accra after attempting to cross a heavily flooded road. The footage, shared by We Love Ghana on June 10, 2026, depicts the pair entering what appears to be a submerged roadway on a motorbike. Despite the evident danger posed by the rising water, they proceeded, only to be carried away within seconds.
According to Ghana Web, it remains unclear whether the two individuals survived the incident. The occurrence coincides with a period during which several parts of Accra and Tema have been experiencing severe flooding due to heavy rains. Areas such as Darkuman, Adabraka, Alajo, and Christian Village have reported submerged streets, stranded commuters, and significant disruption to daily activities as drainage systems are overwhelmed.
In response to the ongoing flooding, President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other agencies to compile a comprehensive report on flooding across the country. This initiative aims to identify high-risk zones and guide both emergency response and long-term flood prevention measures.
