Joel Eshun previously spearheaded GhanaWeb's coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the media outlet achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first digital media platform in Ghana to livestream a dedicated World Cup commentary show.
According to Ghana Web, the initiative provided football fans with real-time analysis, expert opinions, and comprehensive coverage throughout the tournament. As preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, GhanaWeb is set to deliver extensive coverage across its digital platforms, with a strong focus on the Ghana national football team, African representatives, and the tournament's traditional football powerhouses.
Speaking on the assignment, Eshun expressed his excitement about leading the coverage once again and highlighted GhanaWeb's commitment to delivering timely, engaging, and insightful content to football fans across Ghana and beyond. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to be the largest edition of the tournament, featuring 48 teams for the first time in history.

About Joel Eshun: Joel Eshun grew up with a passion for sports and a dream of becoming a renowned journalist from his hometown. With over six years of experience in the media industry, his journey began in 2017 at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), now the University of Media Arts and Communications (UNIMAC), where he pursued a Bachelor of Communications with a specialization in Journalism.
While at GIJ, Joel started as a news reporter for the campus radio station, Radio GIJ 97.9, before joining the sports desk as a presenter and analyst. In 2018, he gained international exposure during the FIFA World Cup in Russia as an intern with Hello FM. In 2019, he joined Primeval Media GH and later GhanaWeb, where he rose from volunteer to full-time staff and eventually led the commentary desk.
Joel successfully led his team to cover the 2021 AFCON and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making GhanaWeb the first digital media platform in Ghana to broadcast live commentary shows. He also hosted the Sports Debate show on GhanaWeb's YouTube channel, attracting strong viewership. After a brief stint at Happy FM, Joel returned to GhanaWeb in 2025 as a Senior Journalist and Sports Editor.
When not working, Joel enjoys watching movies or relaxing at the beach with a non-alcoholic cocktail. Joel was born to Charles Eshun and Benedicta Baiden and has one brother, Emmanuel, and four sisters: Ruth, Mary, Patricia, and Gloria.
