According to ghana news agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, Mr Gunu stated that the region is set to plant 300,000 seedlings to bolster efforts in combating climate change and safeguarding the environment for future generations. He encouraged residents of the region to integrate tree planting into their culture and nurture the trees, highlighting the crucial role trees play in alleviating the adverse effects of climate change.
Mr Gunu emphasized tree planting as an essential community resilience and disaster mitigation strategy, calling for a collective effort to maintain this practice. He urged traditional authorities, assembly members, and citizens to plant trees as protective windbreaks against heavy storms and to prevent environmental degradation.
Mr Gunu further stressed that planting trees is one of the most reliable long-term strategies to shield vulnerable communities from extreme weather and windstorms. Mr Henry Kudiabor, the Volta Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, noted that the region is unique in its management of timber resources due to minimal sawmill activity, and he encouraged residents to continue their environmental protection efforts.
