Accra: The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has announced the party's decision to petition the Chief Justice for the removal of Circuit Court Judge His Lordship Joseph Yenuban Kunsong. Frimpong expressed concerns over the conduct of the judge, describing it as unacceptable.
According to Ghana Web, the NPP's move follows remarks made by Frimpong on Thursday, May 21, 2026, where he labeled the judge's actions as a form of misconduct. Frimpong emphasized that the NPP would not overlook the issue, asserting that Judge Kunsong has shown bias in the case involving the Republic vs Abronye. The party believes that the judge's stance compromises his ability to deliver impartial justice and has requested that the case be reassigned to ensure fairness.
The case centers around the NPP Bono Regional Chairman, who faces charges of offensive conduct and the publication of false news. The prosecution accuses Abronye of making derogatory statements about a judge and attempting to incite public unrest against the court. On the same day Frimpong made his comments, the High Court granted Abronye bail set at GHS100,000 with two sureties, following a request by his legal team.
