Accra: The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of targeting members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for arrests linked to their social media activities.
According to Ghana Web, Oppong Nkrumah highlighted the recent detention of Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye DC, as part of a broader trend. He claimed that since the current government assumed office, more than 16 NPP members have been arrested due to their comments and posts on social media, which the government considers unfavorable.
Oppong Nkrumah expressed concerns over the prolonged detention of Abronye DC, noting that he was arrested, denied bail, and has been detained since last Wednesday. He further alleged that Abronye's family, political associates, and legal representatives have been denied access to him, accusing the government of employing arrests and detentions as a tactic to suppress dissenting voices.
He emphasized that the NPP intends to challenge this situation through public advocacy and legal means, asserting that the government's actions aim to intimidate individuals and stifle criticism of its unfulfilled promises to the Ghanaian people.
