AngloGold Ashanti Furnishes Ashanti Region Schools with 1,000 Classroom Furniture Sets

Obuasi: AngloGold Ashanti has donated 1,000 sets of classroom furniture to selected senior high schools in the Ashanti Region to help address critical infrastructure gaps and improve learning conditions for students.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donation is part of AngloGold Ashanti's commitment to advancing quality and inclusive education under the Mine's 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP). The beneficiary schools, including Akrofuom Senior High School, Dompaase Senior High School, and Tweapease Senior High School, received 500, 300, and 200 sets of desks respectively.

The presentation ceremony was held at Akrofuom Senior High School, attended by representatives of the beneficiary institutions, local authorities, and community stakeholders. This intervention is expected to promote safer and more conducive teaching and learning environments by reducing overcrowding and improving classroom comfort, concentration, and overall student well-being.

The initiative also reinforces equitable access to quality education by ensuring students have access to decent learning spaces regardless of their socio-economic background, aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education. Ms. Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei, speaking on behalf of the Community Relations Manager, explained that the company identified the furniture deficit during a comprehensive community needs assessment conducted under the 10-Year SEDP.

She noted that inadequate desks and chairs had negatively impacted effective teaching and learning within the beneficiary schools. Furthermore, the initiative forms part of AngloGold Ashanti's commitment to empowering communities through sustainable educational investments that support student development and long-term human capital growth in Obuasi.

"This intervention reflects our continued commitment to supporting education and creating opportunities for young people to thrive academically in a safe and conducive environment," she stated. The donation is part of the Obuasi Mine's ongoing social investment programs aimed at improving educational infrastructure, enhancing learning outcomes, and contributing to sustainable community development across its host communities.
