Kumasi: Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, Mamponghene and representative of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the government and the State Housing Company Limited (SHC) to ensure the timely completion of the Dedesua Green City Affordable Housing Project, emphasizing the fatigue of Ghanaians with unfulfilled promises and abandoned projects.
According to Ghana Web, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III made this appeal on Saturday, May 9, 2026, during the groundbreaking ceremony at Dedesua in Kumasi. The event was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, officials from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, development partners, and SHC management. He expressed his concern over the frequent failures of housing projects that often do not progress beyond initial ceremonies.
He highlighted that many projects start with good intentions but often fail to materialize, and he emphasized the need for execution, accountability, and tangible results. He also revealed that the Asantehene had released over 200 acres of land to the government more than 16 years ago for affordable housing, but successive administrations had not developed it until now. Daasebre Osei Bonsu III commended the current government for reviving the project, expressing gratitude to President Mahama and the NDC government for advancing this vision.
John Sherif Bawa, the Managing Director of SHC, assured stakeholders that the project has secured financing and set clear implementation timelines. He emphasized that the project is not merely a promise, a concept, or a rendering on a presentation slide that will be forgotten. He announced that the first phase of the project will deliver 214 housing units by the end of 2027, with a total of 1,067 units expected to be completed over five years.
Dr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, stated that the project is part of efforts to reduce Ghana's housing deficit while promoting sustainable urban development.
