Negative Media Narratives Impacting Ghana Football’s Financial Growth, Warns GFA Marketing Director

Accra: The Marketing Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Jamil Marabi, has raised concerns about the detrimental impact of persistent negative media coverage on the commercial success of Ghana football. He emphasized that this trend could potentially result in millions of dollars lost in sponsorship deals.

According to Ghana Web, Marabi highlighted in an interview with the GFA media channel that sensational and often exaggerated media reports are creating a cycle that discourages corporate investment. He warned that continuous negative portrayals, such as claims of corruption or the decline of the sport, deter potential sponsors from investing.

Marabi stressed that while criticism is necessary, the way issues are reported has significant financial implications for the sport's growth. He urged media outlets to consider the presentation of their reports, as negative headlines can derail negotiations with potential partners by weakening their confidence in critical moments.

Additionally, Marabi pointed out that beyond media influence, structural challenges such as Ghana's economic constraints limit local companies' investment capacity. He noted that the market size and spending power are insufficient for expecting large-scale investments, such as $20 million sponsorship deals, from local businesses.
