Accra: The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reportedly arrested two former senior officers of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) as they were preparing to travel outside the country.
According to Ghana Web, the arrests, which happened over the weekend, form part of ongoing investigations into multiple allegations involving financial misconduct within COCOBOD. Sources indicate that EOCO is probing several suspected cases, including procurement-related fraud, criminal negligence, money laundering, and other financial irregularities believed to have resulted in losses running into billions of cedis.
Although the identities of the two former officials have not yet been officially disclosed, sources at the EOCO say a detailed statement on the arrests or the specific charges they may be facing will be released soon. Investigations are said to be ongoing as authorities work to unravel the full extent of the alleged financial improprieties within the cocoa sector regulator.
