Accra: The Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) has called on the government to enforce the agreed-upon provisions of the Conditions of Service for its members, highlighting the importance of this enforcement for maintaining industrial harmony.
According to Ghana News Agency, TEWU's leadership has successfully completed negotiations regarding the Conditions of Service for several key sectors, including the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, the Ghana Library Authority, and public and technical universities. These negotiations, marked by significant delays, were finally concluded between the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
A statement released on Friday by King James Azortibah, TEWU's General Secretary, in recognition of May Day, emphasized the union's commitment to supporting the country's socio-economic development. The union expressed its determination to ensure that its service delivery in educational and other sectors contributes to the nation's progressive development trajectory.
The statement also warned against any attempts to obstruct the implementation of the Conditions of Service, underscoring the union's resolve to defend the dignity of its members. It highlighted the legacy of past workers who fought for a dignified working environment and called on current duty bearers to uphold this legacy.
The statement concluded by urging social partners to meet expectations in creating a conducive environment and providing necessary resources to enhance productivity. It called for collective efforts to drive Ghana towards its desired economic and social development goals.
