Accra: The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has expressed its full support for the implementation of the Publican Artificial Intelligence (AI) System at the nation's ports. According to Ghana News Agency, the Association clarified that any suggestion of opposition to the system was based on outdated information from a December 2025 publication. A statement issued in Accra, signed by Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, Executive Secretary of the IEAG, explained that earlier concerns were related to stakeholder consultation, data security, transparency, and system integration. The statement highlighted that subsequent engagements between the Government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) addressed these issues, showcasing the government's dedication to a robust implementation framework. The IEAG now unequivocally supports the AI system, which has been successfully rolled out. The Association acknowledged initial operational challenges but praised the authorities for ef forts to ensure the system's efficient operation. It emphasized the potential benefits of the AI system, such as improved revenue mobilisation, transparency, reduced revenue leakages, and minimised unethical practices at the ports. The initiative is seen as vital for modernising Ghana's trade facilitation system and bolstering economic growth. The IEAG cautioned against the recycling of outdated positions that misrepresent its stance and urged the public to support the Publican AI System's successful implementation for national progress. It reaffirmed its commitment to policies that enhance port efficiency, remove bottlenecks, and foster a competitive trading environment. The Association called on all stakeholders to contribute to the system's success in the national interest.
