Cotonou: Ghanaian skaters Dosseh Aziado and Moses Sewornu clinched gold and silver medals on Saturday at the inaugural International Challenge Cotonou Skating (I2CS), marking a significant achievement for their country.
According to Ghana News Agency, the two athletes, hailing from the Volta Region, excelled in the elite Master Men Marathon category, showcasing their dominance in the competition's most challenging race. This victory places Ghana at the forefront of the event and underscores the development of skating talent beyond the capital city, Accra.
The success of Aziado and Sewornu represents a milestone for Ghana Skate, the national governing body for roller-skating sports. Mr. Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportufe, President of Ghana Skate, emphasized the broader impact of their win, stating, 'This is not just a win for Dosseh and Moses. It is a win for every young skater in Ghana who dreams of competing internationally.'
The event was organized by the Benin federation as a regional initiative to promote competitive roller sports in West Africa. Gratitude was expressed towards the Benin federation for their organization, as well as to Team Benin's head coach, Sera Kim, for elevating preparation standards across the region.
