Accra: Impact World 360°, a Virginia-based non-profit corporation, has conducted health screening and emergency response training in Osu, targeting hypertension, diabetes, and road crash fatalities. According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise screened residents for high blood pressure and diabetes, while providing practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bleeding control, and safe handling of accident victims. Mr. Kevin Dillard, a life member of the Virginia Life Saving and Rescue Hall of Fame, stressed the need to know one's blood pressure and detect stroke early using the B-FAST method-Balance, Eyesight, Face, Arm, Speech, and Time. 'Every minute counts. Acting quickly can save a life or prevent permanent damage,' he said. The programme also trained more than 70 motorcycle riders, identified as frequent first responders at crash scenes, to improve emergency handling and reduce fatalities. Nana Noi, Coordinator of Impact World 360°, described the initiative as a 'game changer,' combining health awareness with real-life emergency simulations to build confidence and preparedness. Dr. Patrick Neustatter, Managing Director of the Lloyd F. Moss Free Clinic, noted a high prevalence of hypertension among participants. He advised regular health checks, balanced diets, exercise, and weight management, warning that uncontrolled blood pressure and diabetes significantly increase the risk of stroke. Supported by the American Embassy, the programme aims to encourage participants to share life-saving knowledge within their communities. 'Even sharing a fraction of what they've learned can save lives,' Dr Neustatter said.
