Accra: Veteran football administrator Alhaji Abdul Karim Grusah has urged increased investment in juvenile football, stressing the need to strengthen grassroots development to produce quality players for Ghana’s national teams. Speaking in an interview, Alhaji Grusah highlighted the importance of enhancing player development structures to support calls for more locally based players in the national team.

According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Grusah questioned the current capability of the Ghana Premier League to consistently produce players who can perform at the highest international levels. He noted that while local talent is crucial, the league’s current state does not inspire confidence in its ability to supply players for international competitions.

Alhaji Grusah appealed to Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, to prioritize juvenile football across the nation. He emphasized that sustained investment in grassroots programs is essential for identifying and nurturing future national team players. He called on the minister to focus efforts on boosting juvenile football, thereby securing quality players for the national team.

He concluded that the foundation for rebuilding Ghanaian football lies in youth development, as opposed to seeking short-term solutions at the national team level.
