Accra: The Ghana Football Association announced its decision to terminate the contract of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo. This development follows Ghana's recent defeat to Germany, which ended with a score of 2-1, and a prior loss to Austria with a 5-1 scoreline.
According to Ghana Web, Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman reported that Otto Addo attempted to make a case for his continued role as the Black Stars coach during a meeting after the Germany match. However, the Ghana Football Association had already decided to relieve him of his duties. Addo reportedly responded with the words, "Thank you for the opportunity," upon hearing the decision.
Otto Addo's dismissal comes amid a series of disappointing performances by the Black Stars. The recent losses, particularly the heavy defeat by Austria, have raised concerns over the team's form and strategy under Addo's leadership.
The Ghana Football Association had re-appointed Addo as the head coach on March 15, 2024. He had previously served as interim coach, notably leading the team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-off matches against Nigeria. Addo resigned after the Black Stars' underwhelming performance at the 2022 World Cup, only to return to the role two years later.
