Wenchi: Mr. George Agyemang, the Acting Wenchi Municipal Director of Health, has expressed concern about the rising cases of Tuberculosis (TB) in the municipality. He reported that the directorate recorded 102 TB cases in 2025, with 80 percent of these cases having been treated and a death rate of 6.7 percent.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Agyemang, speaking at an interview in Wenchi to mark the 2026 celebration of World TB Day, advised the public to seek early medical intervention. He emphasized that with early detection, TB cases could be effectively treated. World TB Day, observed on March 24 each year, is an initiative by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise public awareness about the global TB epidemic and efforts to eliminate the disease.
The theme for the 2026 celebration is 'Yes! We can end TB!', which signals a shift from reaffirming global ambition to turning commitments into tangible actions. Mr. Agyemang called on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), philanthropic individuals and organisations, and the civil society community to intensify education efforts and increase investments to curb the spread of TB in the country.
