Western Regional Veterinary Service Celebrates Excellence at Fifth Annual Awards Night

Takoradi: The Western Regional Veterinary Service has honoured some 47 individuals and institutions at their fifth awards night in Takoradi. The awards fell under categories such as Collaborative Organisation, Leadership, Retired, Loyalty and Dedication, Best Spousal, Best Veterinary Volunteers, and Best District Veterinary Staff, with prizes including citations, pieces of cloth, standing fans, and television sets.

According to Ghana News Agency, the award ceremony was themed 'Make Ghana Great Again: The Role of Veterinary Services' and aimed to recognise both current and retired staff whose commitment and dedication have significantly contributed to advancing animal health, public health, and agricultural development in the region.

Mr. Emmanuel Mensah, the Western Regional Director of Agriculture, emphasized that the occasion was not only a moment of celebration but also an opportunity for staff to reflect and renew their commitment to the development of the agricultural sector in the country. He highlighted the crucial role of the veterinary profession in ensuring food security, safeguarding public health, and promoting economic growth in Ghana, a nation where agriculture is a key economic driver.

Mr. Mensah further acknowledged the efforts of the awardees, commending their hard work, commitment, and sacrifices. He pointed out the importance of their role in disease surveillance, prevention, and control, which protects livestock resources and significantly improves livelihoods, especially in rural farming communities.

Dr. Emmanuel Allegye Cudjoe, the Chief Veterinary Officer, in a speech read on his behalf, noted that the event's theme underscored their collective responsibility as custodians of animal health, public health, and national development. He praised the award winners for their distinguished commitment and professionalism, urging them to use the recognition as motivation to continue contributing to national progress.

Dr. Simon Gbene, Western and Western North Regional Director, Veterinary Service, encouraged other staff members to remain steadfast in their duties, maintaining integrity and professionalism to be recognised in future awards ceremonies. He expressed hope that the awards would inspire greater excellence and reinforce the shared vision of making Ghana great through effective and resilient veterinary services.

Mr. Sylvester Kodwo, an Officer at Elubo and recipient of the Overall Best Award, expressed his gratitude to the management of the Veterinary Service for the recognition. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he shared that the award would motivate him to work even harder to strengthen veterinary services in the area.
