Accra: Following a statement from the Presidency announcing President John Dramani Mahama's directive for recruitment slots in the various security services in the country to be expanded, some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been expressing thanks for the decision. One such individual is Henry Osei Akoto, a former NDC National Organiser aspirant and leading member of the party, who expressed his approval of the President's action.
According to Ghana Web, Osei Akoto stated that the move by President Mahama is welcome and aligns with what the youth and hardworking people of the NDC have been advocating for. He described the directive as 'swift' and noted that it demonstrates the president's understanding of the challenges faced by the citizenry.
Osei Akoto expressed his gratitude, saying, "Per this release from the Presidency, I am very happy and I want to say thank you to President John Dramani Mahama for this swift move and something he has acted on for the party grassroots to actually have hope now." He emphasized the importance of leadership in addressing pressing issues and highlighted the demand among Ghanaian youth for employment opportunities.
The statement from the Presidency, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of State in charge of Communications, detailed President Mahama's directive to double the recruitment target for security services. This order increases the number of new recruits across Ghana's security agencies from 20,000 to 40,000 over a four-year period. The directive was issued after a high-level meeting on March 16, 2026, involving the president, heads of security agencies, and the Ministers of the Interior and Defence, who were briefed on the status of the ongoing recruitment exercise.
