CAMFED Ghana and TVET Service Sign Partnership to Support Female and PWD Rights in Education

Accra: Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED Ghana) and the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service have initiated a collaboration aimed at advancing the rights of females and persons with disabilities within TVET institutions.

According to Ghana News Agency, the partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Partnership (MoP) signed on Wednesday, January 21. This agreement establishes a cooperative framework focusing on programmes of mutual interest and priorities shared by both organizations.

A statement released noted that CAMFED Ghana will collaborate with the Ghana TVET Service to incorporate the Learner Guide Programme into TVET schools. The initiative will also focus on promoting the rights of females and persons with disabilities through advocacy and policy engagement, aiming to enhance the overall TVET sector in Ghana.

The agreement outlines that the Ghana TVET Service will provide information to CAMFED's alumnae network, known as the CAMFED Association (CAMA), about training, apprenticeship, and employment opportunities in the TVET sector. In return, CAMFED Ghana is expected to assist the Ghana TVET Service in modeling a give-back programme and establishing an alumni programme inspired by the CAMA network.

Moreover, both institutions are committed to collaborating on promoting child protection and safeguarding practices consistent with CAMFED's Child Protection Policy and Code of Practice within the TVET sector. The partnership is seen as a significant step toward increasing female participation in traditionally male-dominated TVET fields and integrating effective practices as part of the sector's transformation agenda.

The Ghana TVET Service, functioning under the Ministry of Education, was created by the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020. It is responsible for managing national policies and programmes related to pre-tertiary technical and vocational education and training, ensuring regulation, coordination, and quality of instruction. The TVET sector is recognized as a crucial driver of Ghana's industrialisation efforts.

Prior to this agreement, in August of the previous year, CAMFED Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) to advocate for the entrepreneurial rights of young women. This partnership aimed to enhance the activities of District Business Committees and incorporate child protection and safeguarding in skills development training for youth in Ghana.
