Over 60 Members of Ghana Blind Union in Western Region Receive New Year Support

Takoradi: Over 60 members of the Ghana Blind Union in the Western Region were treated to a special feast to kick off the new year. A total of 65 members participated in the annual event, which has become a pillar of empowerment and hope for this community.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event was organized by Nana Kwesi Coomson, Editor-in-Chief of the news portal '233times.net'. Mr. Coomson emphasized that the initiative underscores the importance of inclusiveness in societal growth. The project has evolved into a sustainable empowerment initiative focused on promoting economic independence and restoring dignity among visually impaired individuals.

For the third consecutive year, beneficiaries received grants to start new businesses or expand existing ones. The recipients are now able to engage in various income-generating activities such as trading in local beverages, bakery, popcorn vending, charcoal, and home cleaning products. These activities have not only improved their livelihoods but have also reinforced their capabilities.

Mr. Coomson stated that all 65 members and their aides have been enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to improve access to healthcare services. He highlighted the privilege of being a source of impact for the disabled, noting that the initiative focuses on empowerment rather than sympathy.

He expressed gratitude to the individuals and partners who have supported the programme, acknowledging their contributions in cash and ideas. The growth and consistency of the initiative, he noted, were made possible through the collective commitment of those dedicated to uplifting vulnerable members of society. Mr. Coomson also thanked Mr. Fiifi Buckman, the Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, for sponsoring the feast.

Union members praised the initiative's organizers and sponsors, describing the event as life-changing and a source of renewed hope for the new year.
