Tema: The Tema Regional Police Command foiled an armed robbery attack at Afienya-Mataheko on Monday, 29 December 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, a release issued by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, said credible intelligence received on December 27, 2025, by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) indicated that a group of suspected armed robbers was planning attacks within the Tema Metropolis and its surrounding areas.
Acting on the intelligence, police officers were deployed and placed on surveillance. ASP Dzakpasu said that at about 0100 hours on December 29, 2025, officers spotted four suspected robbers attempting to break into a residential premises at Afienya-Mataheko.
Upon approaching the suspects, the police were met with gunfire, resulting in an exchange of fire. During the encounter, four suspects sustained gunshot wounds.
Three of them, identified as Kwabena Azuwebi alias 'Lastman,' Yaro Bawku, and Faisal, were rushed to the Police Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
'The fourth suspect, Kassim Hussein, was later arrested after being recaptured. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but died while receiving medical care,' ASP Dzakpasu stated.
'Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one Taurus pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, two cutlasses, and two motorbikes, one unregistered and the other bearing registration number M-25-GT-4243,' she said.
The release said all exhibits had been retained for investigations.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other accomplices.
The Tema Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged citizens to support the Police with timely and credible information.
'Criminal elements are hereby warned that crime does not pay, and the Police will continue to deal firmly with all offenders,' ASP Dzakpasu said.
