UK and Ghana to Host Inaugural London-Accra Economic Summit

Accra: The British High Commission in Accra, in collaboration with the Bank of Ghana, is set to host the inaugural London-to-Accra Economic Growth Summit on January 6, 2026.

According to Ghana News Agency, a joint statement from the Bank and the High Commission announced that the Summit will gather 200 leaders from the UK and Ghana, consisting of policymakers, investors, innovators, and creatives, to develop strategies for long-term economic growth.

The Summit will address several key topics, including Remitting to Invest, Evolving Diaspora Financial Flows, London and Accra as Powerhouses for Economic Growth, and Unleashing the Potential of Cities Through Culture, People, and Creativity. The event forms part of the London-to-Accra campaign, an initiative aimed at strengthening the social, cultural, and economic ties between the UK and Ghana.

The statement highlighted that remittances, particularly from the UK-Ghana diaspora, are a crucial source of external financing for Ghana, supporting entrepreneurship, education, housing, and innovation. The Summit aims to explore ways to transform remittance-driven support into concrete opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange, thereby fostering mutual economic growth.

The event will also focus on the creative industries, celebrating the global influence of Ghanaian music, fashion, design, film, and digital culture. Through panel discussions, the Summit will showcase how these cultural sectors are shaping international markets and transforming economic narratives.

Delegates will hear keynote addresses from Dr. Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and senior Ghanaian government ministers. Panels will feature prominent voices in investment, innovation, and the creative arts.

The London-to-Accra Economic Growth Summit is seen as a significant milestone in enhancing the economic, cultural, and social connections between the UK and Ghana. By bringing together influential figures from various sectors and leveraging the power of the diaspora, the Summit aims to foster deeper collaboration, innovative partnerships, and long-term investment opportunities.

The ideas, partnerships, and commitments developed during the Summit are expected to lay the groundwork for ongoing cooperation and sustained growth. The UK Government is dedicated to advancing diaspora engagement as a key element of its international economic strategy, acknowledging the vital role of Ghanaian diaspora communities in promoting trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Dr. Rogg remarked on the importance of the British Ghanaian diaspora in realizing shared growth objectives, while Dr. Asiama emphasized the Bank of Ghana's commitment to developing supportive policy and regulatory frameworks for diaspora investment. The Summit is viewed as a platform to turn cultural pride into economic purpose.
