Faith Presby Basic School Marks Two Decades of Educational Impact in Madina

Madina: The Faith Presbyterian Basic School in Madina, Accra, has celebrated its 20th anniversary with a renewed commitment to providing accessible and quality education to the community and beyond. According to Ghana News Agency, the celebration was themed 'Empowering Generations through Perseverance: 20 Years of Developing Heads, Hearts and Hands into the Future'. For the past two decades, the school, a non-profit institution, has been dedicated to instilling moral discipline, academic training, and spiritual values in collaboration with the church. Rev Emmanuel Okyere, Minister in Charge of Faith Presbyterian Church and the school's Manager, emphasized the church's commitment to supporting community education regardless of the learners' religious backgrounds. He noted that less than 30 percent of the students are Presbyterians, highlighting the inclusive nature of the school's educational campaign. Rev Okyere also mentioned the church's scholarship schemes aimed at boosting enrollment for brilliant but needy students in the community. He acknowledged the collective efforts of stakeholders who have contributed to realizing the school's vision, despite challenges such as limited resources and slow progress. He praised the dedication of teachers, both past and present, and expressed gratitude for the partnership and support from parents in nurturing the school's vision. Rev Okyere highlighted the church leadership's role in providing spiritual and moral support, which he described as a cornerstone for the school's growth. Mr Francis Xavier-Kojo Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, underscored the importance of tangible support for teachers. He announced plans to award the next winner of the Madina Best Teacher Awards with a two-bedroom house, reflecting the dignity of the teaching profession. Mr Sosu reiterated his office's commitment to education as a key element of the constituency's development agenda. Mr Samuel Ofori-Offei, a past Senior Presbyter, provided a brief history of the school, noting its hu mble beginnings with one retired teacher and seven pupils in 2005. Today, the school employs 36 teachers and serves 453 pupils. The event also recognized outstanding teachers and academically excellent pupils with awards and prizes.
