Accra: The Faith Presbyterian Basic School, Madina, Accra, marked its 20th anniversary with a renewed commitment to providing accessible and quality education to the community and beyond. The celebration, themed 'Empowering Generations through Perseverance: 20 years of Developing Heads, Hearts and Hands into the Future', highlighted the school's legacy of moral discipline, academic training, and spiritual development in collaboration with the church.
According to Ghana News Agency, Rev Emmanuel Okyere, the Minister in Charge of Faith Presbyterian Church and the Manager of the school, emphasized the church's dedication to supporting community education regardless of students' religious affiliations. He noted that less than 30 per cent of the students are Presbyterians, underscoring the school's inclusive approach. Rev Okyere explained that the church's educational initiatives aim to instill Christian values, providing moral guidance for students as they mature.
The church has also established scholarship schemes to enhance enrollment for talented but underprivileged students in the community. Rev Okyere recognized the unwavering efforts of stakeholders who have contributed to realizing the school's vision over the years. Despite challenges such as limited resources and slow progress, perseverance has been a guiding principle, he stated, emphasizing the importance of purpose, hope, and vision.
Rev Okyere praised the dedication of teachers, both past and present, who remained committed despite difficult conditions. He acknowledged the partnership and support of parents in nurturing the school's vision to this milestone. The church leadership's spiritual and moral guidance has been central to the school's growth, he noted.
Mr Francis Xavier-Kojo Sosu, the Member of Parliament for Madina, in a speech read on his behalf, called for tangible support for teachers, pledging a two-bedroom house for the next winner of the Madina Best Teacher Awards. He highlighted education as a core component of his development agenda for the constituency, supporting infrastructure needs and academic excellence.
Mr Samuel Ofori-Offei, a past Senior Presbyter, recounted the school's humble beginnings with one retired teacher and seven pupils on September 13, 2005. Today, the school employs 36 teachers and serves 453 pupils. The anniversary event also included awards for outstanding teachers and students who excelled academically.
