Kpandai: The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that only the candidates who participated in the 2024 Parliamentary Election in the Kpandai Constituency will be eligible for the upcoming rerun, which was ordered by the High Court. Mr. Fred Tetteh, the Deputy Director of Research at the EC, confirmed that no new notice of poll will be issued, and no fresh candidates will be added apart from those from the NPP, NDC, and APC who contested in 2024. According to Ghana News Agency, although Parliament has formally informed the Commission of a vacancy, the date for the rerun is yet to be determined. Mr. Tetteh stated, "We have received the notification from Parliament, but the Commission has not settled on a date for the rerun." The election of Mr. Matthew Nyindam as Member of Parliament for Kpandai was annulled by the Tamale High Court in November 2025 following allegations of irregularities. The court ordered that a new parliamentary election be conducted within 30 days. Subsequently, the Clerk to Parliamen t, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, communicated the vacancy to the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, on December 4, 2025. Mr. Tetteh indicated that the EC is currently reviewing the Court's directives and Parliament's notice to determine the next steps. "Preparations are ongoing, and once the Commission meets, an official date will be communicated," he added. The EC is anticipated to announce a timetable for the rerun shortly as political developments in the constituency continue. While the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed approval of the Court's ruling, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opposed the decision, questioning why the entire election is being rerun instead of only the affected polling stations. Mr. Nyindam, the incumbent MP, has filed notices of appeal and a stay of execution against the Tamale High Court's ruling. The NPP also criticized the Clerk of Parliament's action to notify the EC of the vacancy before the appeal's resolution, during a press conference in Accra on Tuesday. I n the annulled 2024 polls, the Kpandai Constituency, part of the Kpandai District in the Northern Region, recorded 27,947 votes (53.47 percent) for Mr. Nyindam. His closest rival, Mr. Daniel Nsala Wakpal of the NDC, garnered 24,213 votes (46.33 percent), while the APC candidate, Mr. Donkor Eric Nipani, received 104 votes. The constituency comprises 152 polling stations and has a voter population of 66,850.
