Jasikan: Mr. Parke-Davis Magyigbe, the Jasikan Municipal Chief Executive, has announced that Jasikan is among 50 beneficiaries of the first phase of the Farmer Service Centre programme under the Feed Ghana initiative. He emphasized that this selection places the Municipality in a strategic position to boost agricultural productivity by providing access to mechanisation support and modern farming equipment, including tractors, tillers, cultivators, fertilizer spreaders, mowers, ploughs, harvesters, and harrows.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Magyigbe made this disclosure during the Municipality's 41st National Farmers' Day celebration held at Buem-Odumase. The event was themed 'Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.' He expressed gratitude to Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, for his assistance in securing the project for the Municipality.
Expounding on the theme, the MCE explained that 'Eat Ghana' encourages citizens to opt for locally grown foods to bolster the domestic agricultural economy, while 'Feed Ghana' highlights the importance of investing in modern technologies like mechanisation, irrigation, and climate-smart practices. 'Secure the Future' focuses on empowering the youth to view agriculture as a viable, sustainable profession.
The FSC programme aims to provide farmers with dependable access to mechanisation services and technical support to enhance yields, reduce manual labor, and expand farmlands. These interventions are crucial for strengthening food systems and ensuring long-term food security. The MCE commended awardees for their contributions to local economic development and assured farmers of the Assembly's ongoing support.
Mr. Moses Anekah, Jasikan Municipal Director of Food and Agriculture, advised farmers to use agrochemicals responsibly and seek technical guidance from extension officers to improve yields and protect the environment. During the celebration, a total of 11 farmers and institutions were honored, with 45-year-old Nana Suleman Somala from Oppong-Akura being named the Overall Municipal Best Farmer. Prizes awarded included Wellington boots, cutlasses, fertilizers, refrigerators, spraying machines, tricycles, roofing sheets, agrochemicals, and certificates.
