Basic School Heads in Upper East Elect New Executives

Accra: The Upper East Regional branch of the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has elected new executives to steer its affairs for the next four years. The seven-member executive board elected at the second quadrennial Regional Delegates Conference included Mr Abdul-Wahab Adam Hamid as Chairman, Mr Christopher Mahama as Vice Chairman, and Mr Anachinaba Baba Anafo as Secretary. The rest are Mr Robert Akantaba Ajwawuki Ayesiyinga as Assistant Secretary, Madam Bride Mambisi as Treasurer, Mr Abugri Busia as Financial Secretary, and Mr Samuel Malugka Wansir as Public Relations Officer and Organizer. According to Ghana News Agency, the conference was themed 'Empowering heads: Enhancing education leadership for quality basic education' and brought together Municipal and District executives of COHBS across the Region. Professor Ephraim Nsoh Avea, a Guest Speaker at the conference, remarked that COHBS members faced a significant challenge in managing schools with limited training for the job. He acknowledg ed the head teachers' efforts to maintain quality education at the basic level despite numerous challenges in their schools. Professor Avea, who is also a former Upper East Regional Minister, praised the heads for their dedication and encouraged them to enhance their teaching skills and make public schools more appealing to their own children. Mr Musah Adam, the Northern Regional Chairman of COHBS, delivered a speech on behalf of the National Executives, stating that the conference reaffirmed their common goal to uplift the standard of basic education and highlight the importance of the head teacher's role. He emphasized that COHBS is now a proactive body, serving as a voice of reason and a symbol of excellence in Ghana's basic education system. Mr Adam stressed the importance of collaboration, structure strengthening, and raising leaders with loyalty, courage, and vision. He also appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to address welfare issues, requesting motivation, incentiv es, professional development opportunities, and necessary logistics to enable effective leadership and supervision at the school level. In his acceptance address, Mr Hamid expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him to lead for a second term. He assured members of his commitment to leading with honesty, fairness, and transparency.
