Accra: The Accra College of Education has successfully held its 15th Congregation, urging its graduates to embrace postings anywhere in Ghana as a call to national duty. This ceremony marked the third cohort of the 4-year Bachelor of Education Programme, with 385 students graduating.
According to Ghana News Agency, the College witnessed a notable academic achievement with 56 students obtaining First Class honours. Additionally, 251 students graduated with Second Class Upper and 78 with Second Class Lower. In a historic first, the College reported no Third-Class results, reflecting a 100 percent improvement from the previous year. Professor Samuel A. Atintono, the Principal of the College, attributed this success to the institution's unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Professor Atintono highlighted the graduation of six special students sponsored by the Ga-Dangme Council, emphasizing the College's policy to promote the teaching and learning of indigenous languages. He explained that since 2025, the College has been admitting 20 students annually through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ga-Dangme Council. This initiative aims to preserve Ghana's linguistic and cultural heritage while expanding opportunities in indigenous language education.
Management remains committed to staff development, promoting advanced studies and professional growth. Professor Atintono encouraged academic staff to pursue doctoral studies, aligning with the College's migration policy that establishes the PhD programme as the minimum qualification for teaching.
The College has hosted significant educational events, including the launch of the Free Tertiary Education Initiative for Persons with Disability by President John Dramani Mahama. Additionally, the College plans to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding with Mary Immaculate College, Ireland, to facilitate student and staff exchange programmes.
Professor Gabriel Nii Noi Dowuona, Chairman of Council, congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the efforts of both teaching and non-teaching staff. He advised graduates to leverage digital education and AI to expand their knowledge and enhance their professional success. Furthermore, he encouraged the graduates to actively participate in the Accra College of Education Alumni Association, emphasizing their role as ambassadors of knowledge and contributors to Ghana's development.
"You are not just individuals receiving degrees but ambassadors of knowledge, agents of resetting the economy for a better Ghana and the hope for a better future," Professor Dowuona remarked.
