Minority Caucus Criticizes Tamale High Court’s Decision on Kpandai Election

Tamale: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has condemned the decision by the Tamale High Court to nullify the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency. The Caucus labeled the ruling as 'unsupported by the facts presented in court.' According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, emphasized that 'The facts did not support the ruling.' The court's decision to invalidate the election was based on clerical errors found in 41 polling stations, despite a witness for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate acknowledging that the disputed votes amounted to only about 500. In the election, Mr. Mathew Nyindam, the NPP candidate, secured victory with 27,947 votes, defeating his NDC rival, Mr. Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who garnered 24,213 votes. Following his victory, Mr. Nyindam was sworn in as the MP-elect for the constituency. The statement from the Minority Caucus asserted that the election process w as transparent and that the results accurately represented the will of the voters. It also noted that the Caucus had filed a notice of appeal and an application for a stay of execution. The statement quoted Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasizing, 'The election was conducted in a transparent manner. The results reflected the choice of the people.' The Minority Caucus expressed confidence that the appellate process would confirm the democratic choice of the people of Kpandai.
