Mahama Commissions Damongo Camp Prison to Bolster Rehabilitation Efforts

Damongo: President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday commissioned the Damongo Camp Prison, a 300-capacity facility built and donated to the Ghana Prisons Service by The Church of Pentecost. This prison is one of five correctional facilities pledged by the Church to aid in the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Damongo Camp Prison is the third such facility to be commissioned, following the Ejura and Nsawam Camp Prisons. It is the first correctional facility in Damongo, the regional capital of the newly established Savannah Region. During his address, President Mahama expressed gratitude to Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, and its members for their contribution to the correctional system in Ghana.

President Mahama highlighted the collaborative effort between the state, the Church, and the community, emphasizing that nation-building is a collective moral endeavor. He also announced that the Government would provide a 66-seater bus to the Damongo Camp Prison to facilitate staff movement.

Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Minister for the Interior and Minister of National Security, referred to the prison as a beacon of hope and a testament to the partnership between the state and faith-based organizations. Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye noted that the Church views the construction of camp prisons as a kingdom project, aiming to save souls and foster societal transformation.

Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, extended her gratitude to The Church of Pentecost for fulfilling its promise with the five camp prisons project, which she said demonstrates the Church's commitment to societal impact beyond spiritual ministry.

Additionally, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewusoale I, in a speech delivered on his behalf, called for religious tolerance among Ghanaians, underscoring the importance of unity in the nation's development.
