President Mahama to Pay a State Visit to China

Afienya: At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana will pay a state visit to China on October 10. President Mahama made the disclosure over the weekend while initiating the construction of Bright International Amusement Park at Afienya near Tema.

According to Ghana News Agency, the amusement park is being constructed by a Chinese company, Greenhouse International Development Group, and is expected to take three years to complete. The facility will be powered by the Bui Power Authority and aims to create jobs, stimulate local economic growth, and promote women’s empowerment through inclusive employment opportunities.

President Mahama highlighted that Ghana is a favorable destination for investment, stating, “it’s open for investment, Ghana is open for business again, because we’re carrying out the reforms that will make Ghana the most attractive destination for investment.” He noted improvements in the economy, including falling inflation, a stabilized economy, overachievement on the primary balance, and rising business and consumer confidence.

During his visit to China, President Mahama plans to inform President Xi that Chinese investors are performing well in Ghana and to encourage more investment. He assured that Ghana would support business ventures by facilitating foreign exchange transactions, simplifying the tax system, and protecting investments.

Additionally, President Mahama mentioned ongoing negotiations with the United States regarding a 15 percent tariff on Ghana and a potential restoration of the zero percent Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Policy, which could attract more Asian and Chinese businesses to Ghana.

Greenhouse International Development Group’s Chairman, Mr. Zheng Xiangming, remarked that the Bright International Amusement Park would symbolize the growing friendship between Ghana and China, contributing to Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy.
