NPP Elder Urges Equal Playing Field for Election 2028 Presidential Hopefuls

Accra: Mar Yaw Dabie Appiah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, has urged the party leadership to ensure that the NPP’s Election 2028 presidential primary is conducted fairly, devoid of biases. He emphasized the importance of an unbiased electoral process for the five presidential aspirants, including former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamamdu Bawumia, who is perceived as a frontrunner.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Appiah stated that the campaigns of the five presidential aspirants have been assessed, and Alhaji Dr. Bawumia is tipped to win the party’s presidential primary, slated for January 31, 2025. The former Vice President is competing against Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Engineer Kwabena Agyapong, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

Mr. Appiah emphasized the need for equal opportunities for all aspirants throughout the electoral process, from campaigning to vote counting and declaration of results. He highlighted the preference of the Ghanaian electorate for Alhaji Dr. Bawumia, warning that choosing any other candidate could negatively impact the party’s chances in the Election 2028.

He acknowledged the capabilities of all presidential hopefuls to become the party’s 2028 flagbearer but urged the party to prioritize the interests of the Ghanaian voter over internal party interests to secure a victory in the next general election. Mr. Appiah expressed confidence that the delegates would support Alhaji Dr. Bawumia, leading the NPP to a successful outcome in 2028.

The 75-year-old former NPP Organiser, known as ‘Orga,’ also called for decorum in the campaigns of the presidential hopefuls, stressing the need for clean campaigns to strengthen the party post-primary for Election 2024.
