Accra: Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs, has concluded a two-day official working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The visit was undertaken at the invitation of the UAE Government.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ablakwa was warmly received by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the UAE. During his visit, Mr. Ablakwa engaged in meetings with key figures, including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and Madam Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs. Discussions extended to the Ministers of Foreign Trade, Investment, and prominent industry leaders.
A notable achievement of Mr. Ablakwa's visit was the signing of an agreement to initiate high-level political consultations, aimed at fostering strategic interests between the two nations. Mr. Ablakwa announced that UAE companies have committed to investing in Ghana's sectors such as renewable energy, AI, education, health, aviation, and defense, aligning with President Mahama's vision of reopening Ghana for business.
Further discussions centered around two of President Mahama's priority areas: labor export opportunities for Ghanaian youth to the UAE and technical support for establishing a new national airline. Mr. Ablakwa highlighted that significant job opportunities in the UAE are expected to be announced soon for Ghanaian youth, contingent upon the conclusion of CEPA negotiations.
Both parties acknowledged the bilateral engagements as historically successful. Mr. Ablakwa expressed his gratitude towards Ghanaian diplomats and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament for their collective efforts in achieving these milestones.
