500 Residents of Subri Benefit from Gold Fields Ghana Foundation NHIS Support.

Subri: Five hundred residents from Subri, a town in the Wassa East District, have received support from the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation (GFGF) to register and renew their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) membership cards. The initiative aims to provide residents with access to quality healthcare. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Abdul Razak Yakubu, Executive Secretary of the Foundation, highlighted the challenges faced by the community in accessing healthcare services. Despite the presence of healthcare facilities, residents often lack the resources to utilize them effectively. The government introduced the NHIS years ago, but individuals in Subri still spend approximately GHc100 on transportation to reach the NHIS office in Tarkwa for registration or renewal of their cards. To address this issue, the GFGF collaborated with the NHIS secretariat in Tarkwa to facilitate the registration and renewal process directly in Subri. This initiative has removed the financial barrier of traveling to Tarkwa, allowing more residents to enroll in the scheme without incurring additional costs. Mr. Yakubu emphasized that the Foundation remains committed to supporting the NHIS secretariat in reaching more communities. The plan includes building the capacity of the secretariat, enabling them to travel from their office to various communities, and conducting public sensitization campaigns on the scheme's benefits. These efforts will extend to radio station programs in Tarkwa, Damang, Huni-Valley, Aboso, and surrounding areas, with the Foundation covering the associated costs. Mr. Ebenezer Anane Atuahene, Public Relations Officer at the Scheme, expressed gratitude to the GFGF for their support, noting that hundreds have benefited from the initiative. The collaboration with the Foundation is expected to enhance the Scheme's operations and broaden its impact.
