Rabat: French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, are scheduled to visit Morocco for a state visit from October 28 to October 30, 2024. This visit, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, marks Macron's second visit to the country since 2018. According to Ghana News Agency, the visit comes after France announced its support for Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, a position that prompted King Mohammed VI to extend an official invitation to Macron in July. A statement from Morocco's Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery noted that the visit underscores the depth of bilateral relations, citing a shared commitment by both heads of state to enhance ties across various dimensions. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening economic cooperation, particularly in renewable energies, new technologies, agriculture, education, and culture. In May, France and Morocco signed a Partnership Roadmap aimed at promoting sustainable transition and climate resilience in the agricultural and forestry sectors. Additionally, French engineering company Egis has partnered with Morocco's national railway operator, ONCF, to build a 430-kilometer high-speed railway between Kenitra and Marrakech, a project set to bolster infrastructure ahead of the 2030 World Cup hosted by Morocco. Christian Cambon, French Senator and Special Envoy for International Relations, stated to MAP News that Macron's visit is an opportunity to establish a renewed partnership with a forward-looking focus. "Macron's visit to Morocco will be a great moment to celebrate our renewed, resilient, and enduring partnership," he remarked.
