KLIKOR: Minister for Railway Development and Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Mr. John Peter Amewu, has advocated for the extension of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's tenure beyond the traditional eight-year period, during his speech at the Zendo Glimetsoza Festival in Klikor, Ketu South Municipality. He emphasized that the current political cycle impedes sustainable development due to frequent interruptions in long-term projects and policies. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Amewu, representing the President at the event, highlighted the limitations of the eight-year governance period under Ghana's democratic structure. He argued that this duration is insufficient for achieving significant developmental milestones and often results in the discontinuation of crucial initiatives when a new government takes office. Mr. Amewu urged the citizens of Ghana to support the NPP's "Breaking the 8" agenda, which aims to secure governance continuity by winning a third consecutive term. He explained that u ninterrupted governance would facilitate the completion of ongoing projects and the implementation of effective long-term socio-economic policies. "I encourage all of you to support the execution of the 'Breaking the 8' agenda, a model that will enhance our socio-economic activities and bring about sustained development," he remarked during his address. Moreover, Mr. Amewu stressed the importance of peace and unity, especially as the nation anticipates the 2024 general elections. He called on the public to resist divisive figures and actions that compromise national security and harmony. The Minister also reassured that the government would provide adequate resources to the Electoral Commission and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election process, though he emphasized the critical role of citizens in maintaining peace. Torgbui Addo VIII, Paramount Chief and President of the Klikor Traditional Council, also spoke at the festival, urging unity and development, and commended the Presid ent for fulfilling the promise to construct township roads in Klikor, which had been overlooked by previous administrations. The 2024 Zendo Glimetsoza Festival not only celebrated cultural heritage but also served as a vital platform for discussing the future of governance and development in Ghana, underscoring the need for continuity and unity for the country's progress.
