English Championship side Coventry City has appointed former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng as their new first-team coach. The ex-Aston Villa player has been without a team since his dismissal as Ghana assistant coach in February following the Black Stars' poor performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. He joins Rhys Carr on the technical team and will serve as an Individual Development Coach. "Coventry City is delighted to announce the appointment of George Boateng and Rhys Carr as the Club's new first-team coaches," the club announced. "Boateng and Carr join the Sky Blues with immediate effect as the City squad assembles for the start of pre-season training at Ryton, joining goalkeeping coach Aled Williams as part of the Club's first-team coaching staff." Coventry is expected to begin pre-season training ahead of the upcoming season. Boateng played for Coventry in the 1998/99 season, making 57 appearances and scoring seven goals for the club.
