Takoradi: A total of 61 exhibitors from Wa, Kumasi, Accra, and the Western Regions are participating in the fifth edition of the Western regional branch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) led Chamber Bazaar.
According to Ghana News Agency, the exhibitors are showcasing commodities mainly made in Ghana, including African wears, fabrics, beadings, smocks and smock materials, wigs, cosmetics, shoes, chiropractor services, jewelry, children's wear, and beverages. The event spans over 10 days and is themed 'Empowering and Preparing SMEs for Global Markets.'
Mr. Lord Kwame Segbeawu, the Western Regional Chairman of the GNCCI, stated at the opening ceremony that the Bazaar has, over the last five years, created a platform for readiness through exposure, networking, and capacity building to enable SMEs to meet standards and expand reach in the global market. He emphasized that with the momentum built over the years, enterprises are positioned to benefit from African Intercontinental Free Trade and other international opportunities through collaboration and resilience.
He noted that the Western Region is poised to become a hub for export and competitive businesses, with the right structures and infrastructure to support SMEs in achieving their full potential. Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, expressed his satisfaction with the vibrant market created by entrepreneurs, innovators, and exhibitors, highlighting their efforts as key to the continual growth of the region.
Mr. Nelson remarked that the competition in the market space requires businesses to reassess their strategies, respond to changing market conditions, and embrace innovations to remain relevant. He stressed that flexibility and forward-looking approaches are essential for survival and sustained growth.
The Minister encouraged businesses to prioritize value addition through processing, packaging, branding, and meeting international standards. He advised them to innovate and align their products with the expectations of diverse markets. He also recommended taking full advantage of support systems in state institutions like the Ghana Enterprise Agency, the Association of Ghana Industries, Food and Drugs Authority, and Standards Board in their growth path.
Additionally, the Minister mentioned that the Investment and Business Centre of the Regional Coordinating Council has been strengthened to facilitate business growth. Mr. Samuel Kofi Ganusah of the Office of the Registrar of Companies highlighted the importance of registering businesses to access government programs and policies for the SME sector.
The event also recognized distinguished individuals and institutions such as Nhyirakese Wellness Centre, Koffman Investment, and the Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, with citations for their role in establishing the annual events in Takoradi. The milestone was celebrated with the cutting of a fifth-anniversary cake.
