Tarkwa: The District Magistrate Court One in Tarkwa has sentenced Francis Kwofie, a 31-year-old illegal miner, to 30 days imprisonment with hard labor for stealing. Kwofie pleaded guilty to the offense and was convicted based on his own plea.
According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecuting officer, Police Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah, informed the court presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah that the complainant, Mustapha Awudu, is a mechanic residing in Bogoso Junction, while Kwofie worked at the Pitson Mines. Both individuals reside in Essamang Kakraba within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
Sergeant Yeboah narrated that on October 20, 2025, around 5:00 pm, Awudu received a call from his wife reporting that thieves had broken into their room and disorganized their belongings. Upon reaching home, Awudu discovered that his room had been ransacked, with GHS1,300.00 missing from the GHS2,100.00 he had stored in his wardrobe.
The prosecution revealed that Awudu received information from his brother, who witnessed Kwofie visiting the house under the pretense of needing to borrow money. Additional testimonies from tenants and locals highlighted Kwofie's history of thefts both at home and his workplace, which led Awudu to suspect Kwofie as the perpetrator.
On October 21, 2025, Awudu visited Kwofie's residence but did not find him there, leaving a message with a tenant. Upon receiving the message, Kwofie visited Awudu's house, denying the allegations when confronted. However, after making a few phone calls, Kwofie offered to settle the debt. Awudu, unconvinced by Kwofie's explanations, apprehended him and reported the matter to the Tarkwa police station.
