Abuakwa: Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has hailed the proposed 24-hour model market as a vision for sustainable growth, increased productivity, and a thriving economy. He emphasized that the markets, which will operate continuously upon completion, are expected to create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Osei Boamah made these remarks at a sod-cutting ceremony to initiate the construction of a 24-hour market in Abuakwa. This project aligns with the government's vision to stimulate economic activities in various districts across the country. He highlighted that this initiative signifies the beginning of a new era of economic transformation in the municipality, offering renewed hope to traders, artisans, transport operators, and young job seekers.
The MCE assured residents that women and traders within the municipality would be prioritized in the allocation of shops and trading spaces upon project completion. 'Women and traders in the municipality will be considered first before any allocation is made to outsiders,' he stated. This arrangement aims to ensure that local residents, who contribute directly to the municipality's revenue through taxes and levies, fully benefit from the project.
Mr. Osei Boamah expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his dedication to infrastructure and economic development. He also commended traditional authorities, residents, and other stakeholders for their ongoing support in the area's development. He urged residents to cooperate with the contractor to ensure the smooth execution and timely completion of the government-funded project within the stipulated two to three-year period.
The market project will include a police post, fire station, clinic, daycare center, and other modern facilities to enhance trading activities and ensure the safety and welfare of users. Nana Yaw Akuoko, Otumfuo Asinhene, who chaired the ceremony, praised the government and the Municipal Assembly for initiating the project and pledged the support of traditional authorities for its successful completion and commissioning.
