Doha,- The 20th Doha Forum, which was held in Doha, Qatar under the patronage of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, has ended with messages of hope for a better future.
The two-day Forum, on the theme: “Transforming for a New Era”, was a global platform for dialogue, bringing together leaders in policy to build innovative and action driven networks.
It saw high profile officials, policy makers, academics and leaders representing more than 30 countries discussing changing realities under the umbrella of “Transforming for a New Era”.
The closing sessions featured Dr Vjosa Osmani, the President of Kosovo; Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, as well as Mr Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA.
The Forum hosted more than 2,300 guests in Qatar, including about 200 panelists from 142 nationalities and 104 countries, who contributed to the over 50 sessions held.
Dr Osmani, in his closing remarks, spoke of Kosovo’s experience with multilateralism, when the international community responded to the conflict In the Balkans, ending the war.
“With history constantly being made and new alliances being formed… multilateralism has never been more important. If we want to transform for a new era, we need to do it hand in hand,” he said.
The Qatar-Africa Business Forum brought together political and business leaders discussing the burgeoning relationship between Qatar and Africa and exploring opportunities for further collaboration.
The Qatar Foundation launched the Earthna Centre for a Sustainable Future, which will examine ways to transition towards a more sustainable future through a holistic lens.
The Global Sports Programme organised a high-level roundtable on the “Protection of Major Sporting Events and the Use of Sports’ Values for the Prevention of Violent Extremism.”
The session brought together experts within the sports fraternity, civil society, and international organisations to discuss priorities in harnessing sports to prevent and counter violent extremism.
More than 30 agreements and individual MOUs were signed during the Forum, which hosted more than 350 international and local media.
