Accra: Newly appointed Black Stars assistant coach, Roger de Sa, has expressed that it is a privilege to be part of Ghana's technical team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The South African coach was named in Ghana's technical team in April ahead of the global showpiece in North America and will deputise for long-time boss Carlos Queiroz.
According to Ghana Web, De Sa got the news overnight and received a message from Carlos Queiroz, asking if he was ready for a big challenge again and to call him as soon as possible. De Sa stated that Queiroz informed him about the Ghana national team's interest in his services, which led to an easy decision to accept the role.
Queiroz and De Sa have collaborated with several national teams, including South Africa, Egypt, Portugal, and Iran. De Sa shared that his wife was the first person he informed after receiving the message, highlighting the possibility of joining another World Cup campaign and his seventh national team.
The Black Stars, making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, are set to face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group I. Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by a match against England on June 23, and will conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia on June 27.
