Gov’t Scandals: Fifi Kwetey applauds ‘sick and tired’ NPP patriots giving information to Ablakwa

The General Secretary of the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on Ghanaians to vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led government in the pending December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections for the economic instability they have brought upon the citizenry and businesses.

According to him, after Ghanaians have voted the NPP out, the next NDC government will prosecute all government officials found guilty of corruption and corruption-related matters.

He highlighted the importance of consensus building by rallying behind the NDC to vote out the NPP from office.

In an interview on ‘The Point of View’ on Channel One TV, Mr. Fifi Kwetey applauded some members of the NPP for their display of patriotism by coming forward to provide valuable information to the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, exposing the scandals involving high-ranking government officials.

According to him, the demonstration of courage and commitment to tr
ansparency is commendable, acknowledging that their efforts have contributed significantly to holding the government accountable for its actions.

He said, ‘I believe that regardless of our differences, the common love we have for our country should unite us at all moments… I remember during the recent June 4, in my speech, I actually saluted a lot of patriots who are in the NPP, who in the midst of all these difficulties, continue to do a lot of patriotic duties.”

“I can tell you, for example, a lot of the scandals, which my good brother MP for North Tongu [is working on]. A lot of information coming up is from patriots of the NPP. Who are simply sick and tired of what’s going on. I can tell you, they do it in the interest of our country.’

‘There are still good people in the NPP. The plan should be to be able to have a coalition of genuine Ghanaian patriots.

‘Unfortunately, for those who are in charge of the NPP today, the level of patriotism is so low, that is why first they need to lose. The country m
ust unite to make sure that they are punished, and prosecuted, to be an example to even the NDC in the future,” he stressed.

Samartex FC general manager dismisses bribery allegations and challenges Hearts of Oak’s Nyaho-Tamakloe

The general manager of Samartex FC, Edmund Ackah, has vehemently denied claims made by Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, who alleged that the Ghana Premier League has seen an increase in referee bribery, contributing to Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko’s failure to secure the league title in the past two seasons.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed his concerns, stating that the issue of referee bribery has become a significant problem in the Ghana Premier League.

He warned that Accra Hearts of Oak would return with a solution to expose those involved in the malpractice.

However, Ackah, whose team, Samartex FC, recently clinched the league title, has hit back at the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Ackah questioned Nyaho-Tamakloe’s ability to manage a club effectively and challenged him to prove his worth.

“If Hearts of Oak were under his management, could he compete with me in the league?” asked Ackah.

He also labeled the suggestion that Sam
artex FC won the league through corrupt means as “stupid.”

Ackah further boasted about his competence as a club manager, asserting that no other chief executive in the league could outsmart him.

He urged the football community not to let “shallow-minded people” tarnish the image and reputation of others.

“Is there any CEO who can handle a Ghana Premier League team better than I’m handling Samartex?” he challenged.

Onana singing video: Belgium issue apology to Mbappe

Belgium have apologised after they posted a video of Amadou Onana chanting that he will target Kylian Mbappe’s shin during their Euro 2024 clash.

The video showed the Everton midfielder alongside the Belgian-based comedian Pablo Andres singing about Mbappe. The comedian chanted: “Who will tackle Mbappe in the shin?” before Onana chanted in return, “Onana, Amadou Onana!” Following backlash, the Belgian FA deleted the video from all their social media accounts and issued an apology.

Before the pre-match press conference, Belgium’s press officer Stefan Van Loock said: “It was not the intention to attack anyone. We have been working with comedian Pablo Andres for a long time, this video also had to be funny.

“But we misjudged that and also took the video offline. We would like to apologise to anyone we may have offended with this. For us, this is the end of the matter.”

The neighbouring nations and rivals face off in the European Championship round of 16 on Monday as Belgium look to get revenge for their 1-0
defeat in the 2018 World Cup semi-final. Although much of the ‘golden generation’ of Belgians have retired, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku have continued to display their strong connection – even if the latter has scored three disallowed goals. In contrast, France have yet to live up to their pre-tournament expectations.

Onana will have the chance to make his mark on Mbappe and France on Monday as the Rode Duivels look to progress to the quarter-finals. The winner of the game will face the winner of Portugal and Slovenia in that game next weekend.

I will fight to earn a place in Black Stars squad – Matthew Anim Cudjoe

Ghanaian youngster Matthew Anim Cudjoe is optimistic about earning his debut call-up to the Black Stars by the end of the year.

The former Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities winger was part of the Ghana squad that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 in Mauritania.

Since then, his teammates Fatawu Issahaku, Philemon Baffuor, and Ibrahim Danlad have been called up to the Black Stars.

Issahaku has already made an impact, recently scoring in a World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, while Cudjoe eagerly awaits his chance.

“I want to play for the Black Stars. It would be a dream. When I was with Asante Kotoko, I always told the media I wanted to play for the national team. I believe it’s just a matter of time,” he said, as reported by 3Sports.

“I believe in myself and know the opportunity will come. It’s about hard work, the coach, and my form. I think this year people will see me in the national team, and when they do, they’ll see Messi in me,” he added.

Currently, the winger position i
s highly competitive in the Black Stars, with a mix of youthful talent and experience.

However, the former Dundee United player is confident he can break through.

“I’m a winger but can play as a number 10. When I get the ball, I drive forward and try to make things happen. There’s no pressure on me; I just need one opportunity, maybe a friendly game,” he said.

Cudjoe recently chose not to renew his contract with Dundee and is currently a free agent.

How a genuine act of support by coach ‘Ablade’ in favor of Wa Suntaa SC landed him in trouble

After a Wa-based club, Wa Suntaa Sporting Club, was relegated from the 2023/24 Access Division One League, reports have been circulating within the soccer fraternity of the Upper West Region accusing Adnan Saeed, coach of Wa Sore Nante FC, of expressing joy over the fate of his former club, Wa Suntaa SC.

Against this backdrop, coach Ablade, as he is also known, during an exclusive interview with Suleman Huud of Wa-based Tungsung Radio on Thursday, June 27, 2024, reacted to a wide range of issues regarding his coaching career as well as the feat he achieved leading Wa Sore Nante FC to secure a spot in Division One League football and has refuted those accusations against him.

According to him, on the last match day of the league involving Wa Suntaa SC versus Wa Power SC, all he wanted was for Wa Suntaa to win the match to avoid relegation, knowing that Wa Power SC would have survived even if they had lost the match.

He indicated that as a result, while the game was ongoing and Wa Power SC scored the equaliz
er to level the scores, he became saddened about the situation and therefore decided to stop watching the match altogether even before it ended, prompting a question from someone among the spectating public asking why the premature departure by the Wa Sore Nante coach.

Speaking in the local dialect, he said: “During the last match between Power SC and Suntaa SC, I was watching the match, and when Power equalized the goal, I just took my prayer gown and left the stadium. So one spectator nearby asked why I was leaving so soon after the equalizer, and I told him that I had to leave since I didn’t understand what Power SC wanted the goal for; after all, they had nothing to lose.”

The young, enterprising manager and former Wa All Stars defender lamented that he was, however, shocked to his core to hear that some football fans had decided to maliciously twist and put a spin on the issue, misconstruing it to mean he was rather jubilant when Suntaa SC conceded their lead to Power FC during the match, just to tarni
sh his image and create disaffection for him in the eyes of Suntaa SC’s owners and fans.

“Shockingly, after the match, I later heard that some people were going around creating a story that I was elated and jubilant when Power SC equalized the goal. How? How on earth would I do that? What would I gain from that? I understand that’s what some people are going around saying about me when that wasn’t the case. These are what many of us do in this region, and they still want us to progress.

“And in all of these, it was only one person-a player of Suntaa SC-who was able to confront me with this false accusation. If someone comes to accuse somebody of you, the appropriate thing to do is to confront and ask the person to know whether what is being accused of him is indeed true or not. When people lie against you in such a manner, definitely any fan of the team hearing this will hate me straight away when that was not what happened,” coach Adnan lamented.

The former Wa Tietaa FC, Wa Suntaa SC, Wa Power SC coach, a
nd Ghana U-20 star, who has led the Wa Sore Nante club to taste Division One League football next season barely two years after its formation, called on soccer fans across the region to eschew using foul language against opposing opponents for the growth of the sport to benefit the youth.

According to him, until soccer fans stop insulting and maligning others, it will be difficult for the soccer fraternity to unite with everyone coming on board to be able to achieve laurels for the region.

The Dondoli club, which did not start well during the Middle League, picked up the pieces when it mattered most to win their remaining three matches and emerge champions, joining Wa Power SC to represent the region for the 2024/25 Access Division One League.

The last Access Division One League campaign saw two Division One teams from the region-Wa Suntaa SC and Maana FC-relegated from the second tier back to the third tier of Ghana football, with only Power SC managing to weather the storm.

Suntaa SC could only manage 3
3 points, while Maana also ended up with only 22 points, albeit losing points through protest, from the 2023/24 Zone 1 to exit the league.

Prior to their last match with Power SC, Suntaa SC seriously needed the maximum points from the match to bring their tally to 35 points to dodge relegation, while Power SC, who were on 36 points, was already safe even if they had lost the match.

Nonetheless, Power SC put up a competitive performance to ensure the match ended in a stalemate, giving them 37 points, much to the chagrin of supporters of Suntaa SC and some spectating fans in the region.

Suntaa SC and Maana FC both shared the 7th and 8th positions on the team log of 8 clubs, respectively, from Zone 1.

Regarding the preparation of the team for the upcoming task, coach Adnan indicated the club would be looking to sign a couple of players to bolster the squad to be able to compete effectively and make a mark in the league.

FC Samartex owner calls for financial assistance ahead of CAF Champions League campaign

Owner and bankroller of FC Samartex, Richard Duah Nsenkyire has called for financial assistance ahead of their debut CAF Champions League.

The Timber Giants will represent the country in the CAF elite competition after winning the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League for the first time in their history.

Despite the success, Nsenkyire expressed concerns about their upcoming African campaign’s sustainability if they relied solely on the Ghana Premier League prize money.

Samartex received GHC 500,000 for their victory, a sum that Nsenkyire believes is insufficient to cover the expenses associated with competing at the continental level.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Nsenkyire highlighted the financial challenges and appealed for support from various sectors.

‘We can’t survive with this prize money for our Africa campaign. It can’t even pay our bills,’ he stated, emphasizing the need for additional funding,” he told 3Sports.

Mr Nsenkyire, currently on a fundraising tour, urged corporate bodies, individuals, and phil
anthropists to step in and assist the club as they represent Ghana on the African stage.

‘We are representing Ghana in Africa and I expect all corporate bodies and all individuals, philanthropists, whoever, to come to our aid and help us push the agenda so that in the near future, our slot in Africa can be increased. When we do well, it affects automatically everybody in the football family,’ he added.
