Amasu: The Bono Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic murder of a 16-year-old boy at an illegal mining site in Amasu, located within the Dormaa Municipality of the Bono Region. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the young boy's death.
According to Ghana News Agency, police discovered the body of Issahaku Ansu at the site on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The body exhibited multiple gunshot wounds on the back and had blood stains around the nostrils, indicating a violent encounter. Ansu's body has been transported to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, as the investigation continues.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement confirming the details, which was shared with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani. The statement noted that the deceased was found wearing a blood-soaked wine-coloured boxer short. Preliminary investigations suggest that Ansu was shot to death, and that others involved in the illegal mining activities fled the scene upon hearing the gunshot.
The police have called for calm among the residents of the area, assuring them that efforts are underway to bring those responsible to justice. The community remains on edge as the search for the perpetrators continues, with authorities urging cooperation from the public in their ongoing investigation.
