Nkwanta (O/R),- Teachers and students of the Shiare Roman Catholic School in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have appealed for support for their dilapidated school, which is affecting academic activities.
The current state of the school, built in 1943 by the Roman Catholic Missionaries, and taken over by government, has deteriorated, affecting teaching and learning.
However, the school is said to have produced many prominent people in society.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Herbert Mawuli Adzasa, the Assistant Head Teacher of the mountainous Shiare R.C. Primary School, said the school lacked many logistics and amenities needed for effective teaching and learning.
There were no furniture and toilet facilities for both teachers and students, as well as communication networks for use by teachers, he said.
Mr Adzasa said the school needed a new Kindergarten block as well as teachers’ bungalow, adding that the current bungalow was in bad shape and not suitable for accommodation, forcing the teachers to live at adjoining communities.
He, therefore, appealed to the Government, philanthropists, Non-Governmental Organisations and individuals to go to their aid.
Some of the students who spoke to the GNA said they needed a computer lab to enhance the learning of Information and Communication and Technology.
They called for the renovation of the entire school in addition to procurement of furniture.
