I would have appointed a young and ambitious coach for 2021 Afcon – Ex-GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association [GFA] president, Kwesi Nyantakyi has suggested that a young and ambitious coach for the Black Stars would have made an impact at the just ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].

With less than four months from the start of the 33rd edition of the Afcon, Milovan Rajevac was reappointed as the head coach of the Black Stars following the sacking of CK Akonnor in September last year.

However, the Black Stars suffered an embarrassing campaign in Yaounde after exiting the tournament with just a point.

Ghana lost to Morocco and debutants, Comoros before sharing spoils with Gabon to finish 4th in Group C.

Following the horrendous performance, the Serbian trainer who signed a one-year renewable deal was shown the exit.

But Nyantakyi, who led the country to the World Cup three times in 2006, 2010 and 2014 says he would have resorted to a young and ambitious gaffer who is ready to make an impact as the head coach of the national team.

“I would have appointed a young and ambitious coach for the Afcon. Young and hungry players because football is for young players,” he said on GTV Sports Plus’ program ‘Saving our Passion’ on Thursday.

“Milovan Rajevac’s performance has taught me that the second coming of coaches have always been disastrous.

“I used the same approach when I was in charge of Wa All Stars and we won the Premier League and I was expecting that but it did not happen,” he added.

Milovan Rajevan meanwhile, has been replaced with Otto Addo on the interim coach of the Black Stars.
