Hearts of Oak omit midfielder Benjamin Afutu from Champions League squad after failing to renew contract

Midfielder Benjamin Afutu has been left out of Hearts of Oak’s Caf Champions League squad.

The midfield enforcer was expected to sign a contract extension with the club but have failed to renew his contract.

With the club expected to participate in the Champions League next season, the club did not name the midfielder in their squad.

Afutu will not play any further part at the Club after refusing to agree terms. He was billed to sign a contract extension with Hearts of Oak after his deal run out at the end of the season.

The player and his representatives outlined certain conditions which Hearts of Oak were willing to meet during negotiation.

After several meetings and talks between the two parties, the 26-year-old could not agree terms hence have parted ways with the Club.

However, the Phobians completed the signing of another prospect in Salim Adams from New Edubiase FC.

Hearts of Oak will face Guinean side Club Industriel de Kamsar in the first preliminary round, with the first leg in Conakry and the second encounter in Accra.

Afutu played an instrumental role in midfield scoring five goals in all competitions to help them achieve the double.
