Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko absence from Africa’s biggest stage shocking – Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly coach, Pitso Mosimane has expressed his worry over the long absence of Ghana’s biggest clubs from Africa’s biggest football stage.

Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko were regulars in the CAF Champions League decades ago but have over the last few years struggled to make an impact in the CAF inter-club competitions.

Hearts of Oak are remembered for winning the Africa’s biggest football competition in 2000; while also clinching the inaugural edition of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004.

Kotoko was also a dominant force in Africa winning the Champions League in 1971 and 1983; eventually being named as the continent’s club of the 20th century by the IFFHS.

Sadly, those glory days are far gone with these once big boys now failing to even make CAF’s second-tier competitions.

Pitso Mosimane speaking in an interview with Joy FM has reacted to the fall from grace of the two clubs.

“Where are the Porcupine Warriors. They used to terrorize everybody. Where is Phobia, where are those teams?” the three times CAF Champions League winning coach asked.

“When these two top teams play in Ghana, the streets are closed. Where are those teams in the CAF Champions League. Where are the top talents,” he concluded.
